BAHAWALNAGAR: A grade three officer at a Micro Finance Bank in Haroonabad turned out to be a burqa-wearing thief who, along with his accomplice, stole Rs3.84 million from an ATM outlet on Sept 9.
The police said that two burqa-clad people entered the Khushhali Micro Finance Bank’s Haroonabad Branch at 10:40pm on Sept 9 and made off with Rs3.849 million and two cash cassettes from the ATM within the jurisdiction of the city police.
During investigation, the police discovered that some locks on the ATM had been tampered with, indicating the possible involvement of a bank official in the incident. However, the culprits intentionally damaged certain parts of the ATM to create the impression that the act was the work of a habitual thief and not a bank employee.
The police interrogated the staff and arrested main suspect Wajahat Ali, officer with the same bank, and seized the stolen cash and cassettes. Raids are underway to arrest the second suspect.—Correspondent
