Theft of service record GMC seeks case against 11 officials of sanitation branch

GUJRAT: Some senior officials of the Gujrat Municipal Corporation (GMC) have allegedly stolen their service files and service books from the official record of the civic agency.

Taking action on the alleged misconduct, the local administration has lodged a complaint with the police for the registration of a criminal case against at least 11 officials of the GMC sanitation branch.

The municipal officer (services), in his written complaint to the city`s A-division police, alleged that three senior sanitary inspectors -Mushtaq Butt, Ghulam Murtaza and Allah Rakha -along with eight sanitary supervisors, including Khalid Gill, Numan Asghar, Yousaf Khan, Mushtaq Gill and others, took away their service files and service bool(s from the GMC record room.

He said these officials had consistently been refusing to return the important documents of the official record despite of being repeated orders.

Earlier, on September 7, at least three other officials of the sanitation branch had been booked by the under section 16 of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance 1960 after some secret reports pertaining to their involvement in inciting a group of sanitary workers against Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Safdar Virk.

However, no arrest could be made in the already registered case as the suspects got interim bail from a local court.

Official sources say the row between the district administration and some senior staffers of the GMC sanitation branch erupted since the DC launched action against the ghost employees in the said branch. At least 36 ghost employees have already been removed from the GMC payroll.

There are also reports that the administration had found more than 100 ghost employees in the GMC record whose salaries were being drawn by an infiuential group of staffers within the civic agency. Further investigations into the scam are underway.
