LAHORE: Muggers strucl< five times in the provincial capital on Friday, taking way cash, jewellery and other valuables all worth Rs1.4 million.
Three robbers barged into the house of Ishtiaq in A-Block of Bahria Town in Sundar police remit and took away cash and valuables worth Rs490,000.
Three armed men stormed into the house of Manzoor in Scheme No II in Shalamar police remit and escaped after looting cash and valuables worth Rs350,000.
Three robbers burst into the house of Mudassir in Awan Town in Hanjarwal police limits and looted cash and jewellery worth Rs270,000.
Three robbers entered the shop of Abdul Azeem in Shalimar police remit and took away Rs15,000, calling cards and mobile phones.
Two gun-toting men approached Mehboob and his family on Fasih Road in Lytton Road police limits and robbed them of cash and valuables worth Rs300,000.
INJURED: A police constable was shot at and wounded by a man for honour on Shalamar Link Road early on Friday.
Mughalpura police said suspect Saleem reached the quarter of constable Nasrullah to find his sister with the constable and opened fire.
The constable, who is posted at the Racecourse police station, suffered a gunshot wound and was admitted to Services Hospital. The suspect fled the scene.
Police registered a case and began investigation.
MURDERED: The body of an unidentified man in his 40s was found near the Ravi bridge in Sherakot area on Friday.
Police responded to the crime scene on an alert call and shifted the body to autopsy.
Police initially suspected the young man was murdered as investigators found torture marks on the body.
Police said the identification of the body, motive for the killing and the people involved were not yet determined.
ACCIDENT: An eightyear-old girl died in a road crash near Sajpal village in Defence C police jurisdiction on Friday.
Police said Momina was playing on the road when she was hit by a tractor-trolley and died instantly.
Police are investigating.
PRISONER DIES: An under-trial prisoner, who was imprisoned in the Camp Jail in connection with a blasphemy case, died of illness at jail`s hospital on Friday.
Jail Superintendent Shahram Khan said Saleem, who was arrested by Chuhng police on charges of 295-C of PPC in April 2013, felt unwell because of low blood pressure and was admitted to the hospital, but he died.
He said Saleem was a mental patient and me dical board had reported him as a patient of Schizophrenia. He said the body had been shifted for autopsy and a letter had been written to the sessions judge for a judicial inquiry.
