LA HORE: The Pakistan Kissan Ittehad, a representative body of small farmers, has distanced itself from the protest a group of the farming community is carrying out in the city against a court decision of shifting three sugar mills from south Punjab bacl( to their original areas in central Punjab.
Ittehad president Khalid Khokhar told a press conference here on Tuesday that owners of Haseeb Waqas, Ittefaq and Chaudhry Sugar Mills were behind the protest demonstration that`s causing worst traffic jams on and around Multan Road areas of the provincial metropolis for the last two days.
Led by Chaudhry Anwar the protesters are demanding that the Shahbaz government become a party in thereview petition filed before the Supreme Court against the Lahore High Court verdict directing shifting back the mills to their original locations to ward off climatic change effects on cotton crop because of sowing of sugarcane for the mills in Rahim Yar Khan and adjoining districts.
The protesters, who had bloclced both sides of Multan Road at Thokar Niaz Beg, demand that the shifting of mills be delayed at least for the time being to prevent the sugarcane growers from losses who had already sown the crop for this season.
