FADI Al Wahidi, an Al Jazeera cameraman who was struck by an Israeli sniper in Gaza Strip last week, has slipped into a coma, the Qatar-based network said on Thursday.

The Israeli authorities have not allowed Wahidi to leave Gaza for medical treatment despite appeals from three media organisations.

The cameraman was shot in the neck on Oct 9 while he was reporting on the Israeli invasion of Jabalia refugee camp, in northern Gaza. He was wearing protective gear that identified him as a journalist.

Doctors at a hospital in Gaza City said they were unable to treat him and prevent complete paralysis, adding that his arteries were damaged. In addition, his veins and bones stood shattered.

The Public Aid Hospital had pleaded for Fadi Al Wahidi to be sent abroad as resources in Gaza were insufficient.
