2016-11-18
RAWALPINDI: The health department on Thursday seized 120 maunds of dead animal meat in Pirwadhai and lodged a case against four butchers.

Chief sanitary inspector Shahid Mehmood and veterinary doctor from the Sihala slaughterhouse Dr Farrukh raided Gali Loharan locality and found butcher Mohammad Zahoor and three others selling substandard mutton.

After checking, the team found that the meat was of dead animals. The team confiscated 120 mounds of the meat and destroyed it at the Sihala slaughterhouse.

The sanitary inspector later told Dawn that thedepartment had received complaints from the area residents and formed the team which raided the area early on Thursday when the meat was transported to the shops.

He said the meat had arrived from Jhang and adjoining cities of Punjab.

`We will not allow butchers to sell dead animals` meat or fresh meat in an unhygienic condition,` he added.

It may be noted that animals are being openly slaughtered in streets and their meat is sold by butchers without getting a certificate from the veterinary doctors of the city government. A Reporter
