Elders want action against criminal gangs in Lakki

LAKKI MARWAT: A local jirga has asked the government to launch action against criminals` gangs and improve the law and order situation in the Lakki Marwat district.

The Aba Shaheedkhel Qaumi Jirga, which met in Dallokhel area here on Sunday, discussed matters pertaining to growing lawlessness and robberies in the region.

Elders from Abakhel, Dallokhel and other adjacent villages were in attendance.

They condemned the increasing robberies and said people were not safe on roads and inside their houses.

An elder, Naseer Turab pointed to a robbery incident near Dallokhel Phattak, and asked the local administration and police to trace the robbers within one week, or the tribesmen would set up a protest camp outside their offices.

He also demanded resumption of work on the under-construction Dallokhel Road within one week.

He said the jirga also formed a committee to meet the local administration officials on the road project issue. He asked the tribesmen to keep an eye on the activities and movements of their youngsters, so they didn`t fall into the wrong hands.

Former district councillor Irfanullah asked the local administration and the police to take concrete steps for bringing lasting peace to the region. He said the government authorities and people should join hands to eliminate crimes, control lawlessness and promote peace in the district.

Meanwhile, Lakki Marwat district police officer Rahim Hussain inspected a proposed site for setting up a police post in Dallokhel Phatak area on Sunday.

The DPO said establishment of police post would help ensure road safety and crime control in the area.
