Parents seek security at schools, colleges

PESHAWAR: The parents and relatives of the school attack victims on Wednesday demanded foolproof security at the educational institutions to avert such inhuman acts in future.

Talking to this news agency outside different wards of the Lady Reading Hospital here, they said that it had become all the more imperative for the government to devise foolproof security arrangements at the schools and colleges in the wake of the grisly attack on the Army Public School and College in the provincial capital. They also underlined unity among people to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

The parents appreciated Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his team for monitoring the relief and rescue operations and expressing sympathies with the bereaved families.

Presence of the prime minister, his cabinet members and national political leadership in Peshawar, they said, had given enormous support and strength to the victims` families to bear the loss with fortitude.

A parent, Mohammad Nawaz, said that one of his sons, Haris Nawaz, lost life in the tragic incident, while his another son, Ahmad Nawaz, was battling for life in the LRH.

He said that his late son wanted to join defence forces of Pakistan and he died with his ambitious dream of defending his motherland. `I`m grateful to the civil society for expressing sympathies and providing solace in this hour of need.

Asif Islam, nephew of an injured English teacher, Altaf Hussain of Nowshera, who is being treated at the ICU of neurosurgery department of LRH, said that his uncle along with his daughter, Khula, had come to the school on the fateful day. He said that innocent Khula died as she received fatal head injuries while her father suffered bullet wounds on chest.

Mr Islam said that it was the responsibility of the media to inform and unite the people against the evil of terrorism.

Begum Abdul Wadood, whose son, Shah Meer, an 8th class student at the APS, was admitted to LRH`s cardiovascular ward, said that she was very upset after hearing about the attack.
