PAKISTAN has been hosting 1.6m Afghan refugees for decades. In the move to legalise millions of Afghan immigrants already working in Pakistan for years, the government is considering a proposal of issuing official work permits to them.
It is an appreciative consideration by the government by which the Afghan workforce can be streamlined for minimising the negative effects on Pakistan`s economy.
Furthermore, this registration can bebetter channelised at international forums for acknowledgement of Pakistan`s generous humanitarian assistance.
Also, this will give a legal alternative to Afghans indulging in undocumented border crossings for earning their livelihood. It is hoped the government will continue and succeed in its efforts to achieve the global goal of making Afghanistan peaceful and prosperous, with a stable socio-political fabric.
