PESHAWAR: People in Peshawar were heard cursing Taliban militants for Tuesday`s attack on Army Public School as the city remained calm and roads seemed half-deserted.

The attack remained talk of the town as people from all walks of life discussed it.

Majority of the residents of Peshawar remained inside their homes on Wednesday, watching television programmes and news relating to the horrible incident. Although militants have destroyed about 800 schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas, yet the Tuesday`s attack was an altogether different strike because it left 148 people, mostly children, dead.

On contrary, other attacks on schools destroyed only buildings as those were carried out after sunset.

As schools in the provincial capital remained closed, the students also stayed at home. Some of them were seen in the streets discussingtheincident.

A student in University Town area was heard asking his classmate as to why Taliban were attacking people. His classmate said that he had heard that Taliban were good people, who pursued their religious education in seminaries and had nothing to do with worldly matters, let alone terrorism.

`They aren`t the Taliban which you are referring to but they are the ones, who have taken it upon themselves to wreak havoc with the people and spread terror through bombs and suicide attacks,` the first one said.

`Then why the government isn`t arresting them? Because I have seen police arresting the people involved in petty crimes,` his classmate questioned.

`You should ask the government,` the student responded.

People are exposed to attacks. Taliban can hit any place anytime at their sweet will but the government as well as politicians from opposition parties issue statements of condemnations. It seems as if government fulfils its responsibility by just condemning the acts of terrorism. Same is true for opposition parties. They never get tired of condemning Taliban but are averse to taking any action.

Taliban are based in Fata from where they handle their terrorist activities in the entire country. They have a command and control system through which they have proved that they can hit any place. The acts of terrorism have been continued for the last one decade and people have become too used to those but some of those attacks, like the one carried out on Army Public School, are heartbreaking. The attack has elicited interest of teenage students to know about Taliban and violence. Many students have got this particular incidence straightinto their heads.They have begun asking their parents about the strength of Taliban, who carry out every act of terrorism with ease, and the government`s inability, which issues statements of condemnation.
