Man held for NED student`s murder remanded in police custody

KARACHI:A judicialmagistrateon Saturday remanded in police custody a juvenile Afghan Tajik suspect held for allegedly killing a young NED University student for resisting an armed robbery on Thursday.

Twenty-one-year-old Bilal Nasir resident of Federal B. Area who was in his third year at the petroleum engineering department of the NED University, was shot dead when he putup resistance to an alleged robbery bid at a tea shop outside the main university gate near Samama Shopping Mall on Dec 15.

The killing sparked an outrage on social media with students holding protests demonstrations on campus against the breakdown of law and order in Karachi.

On Saturday, the investigating ofhcer produced the suspect Nizamuddin before the judicial magistrate (East) to seek his physical remand for interrogation.He stated that the police had arrested the 16-year-old suspect, who was said to be an Afghan Tajik, in an injured condition following an encounter on the Superhighway.

He further stated that during initial interrogation, the suspect had disclosed his involvement in the robberyturned-murder, adding that his alleged accomplices were still at large.

The IO said that the all the suspects were illegal Afghan immigrants, who were residing in the Jamali Pull area off Superhighway.
