KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Wednesday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MPA Rabistan Khan, who was arrested for allegedly beating up a rival Pakistan Peoples Party candidate during the local government elections in Gulshan-i-Maymar on Sunday.

MPA Khan along with 50 to 60 party workers was booked for allegedly beating up PPP’s Hilal Rehmani and his supporters outside a polling station after the polling had ended.

On Wednesday, the held lawmaker was produced from prison before judicial magistrate (West). His counsel moved an application seeking grant of post-arrest bail. After hearing arguments from both sides, the magistrate granted bail in sum of Rs50,000 to him.

The magistrate also directed prison authorities to release him forthwith, if his custody was not required in any other case. However, MPA Khan was asked to cooperate with the police in investigation.

Rabistan Khan and others were booked under Sections 324 (attempted murder), 337-A (punishment for shajjah) and 365 (abduction) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of PPP’s candidate Rehmani.
