Policeman hurt by robbers over resistance

KARACHI: A police officer was shot and injured by robbers over resistance in New Karachi on Wednesday, according to police.

They added that sub-inspector Shakeel Ahmed, 55, posted at the New Karachi Industrial Area`s investigation wing was shot and injured during robbery resistance near his home in Sector 5-G.

Area SHO Chaudhry Tufail said three armed robbers riding a motorbike snatched a cell phone from the officer. As he put up resistance, the muggers opened fire on him and fled along with his phone. The injured officer was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where his condition wasstated to be out of danger.

Seven suspects injured in `encounters` The police on Wednesday claimed to arrest seven suspected robbers in wounded conditions after encounters in different areas of the metropolis.

Site Superhighway Industrial Area police claimed to hurt two muggers during an `encounter` at Ayub Goth off Superhighway.

They said that two suspects Imran alias Chapra and Waleed -were apprehendedinwounded condition, and two pistols and a motorbike were recovered from their possession. The suspects were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.In Sachal area, two suspects identified as Mohammed Khan and Ahsanullah Khan were shot and wounded after an encounter at Chandio Chowk. The police recovered two TT pistols, mobile phones and a motorbike from their custody. They were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

In another encounter in the Sachal area, the police arrested two more suspects after encounter at Scheme 33.

The injured suspect was identified as Dur Mohammed and his accomplice, Rasool Khan. The police claimed to have recovered TT pistols and a motorcycle from their possession.

In Ibrahim Hyderi, a suspect namely Ashig Rehman, 30, wasIn Sachal area, two suspects identified as Mohammed Khan and Ahsanullah Khan were shot and wounded after an encounter at Chandio Chowk. The police recovered two TT pistols, mobile phones and a motorbike from their custody. They were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

In another encounter in the Sachal area, the police arrested two more suspects after encounter at Scheme 33.

However, his accomplice managed to escape from the spot. The police claimed to have recovered one 30-bore pistol from his possession. The wounded suspect was shifted to the JPMC.

Korangi Industrial Area police said that they arrested a suspect identified as Ali Rehman in an injured condition after an encounter near Alamgir Trust in Korangi, while his accomplice Arsalan Ali was also apprehended. The police said that two pistols, looted cash and mobile phones were recovered from their custody. The injured suspect was shifted to the JPMC.
