PIC performs 75 surgeries in one week

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in collaboration with paediatric cardiologists from Egypt, the Netherlands and Qatar operated on 75 children with heart defects during the past one week.

The patients underwent device-based procedures to close holes in their hearts, according to a statement issued here on Saturday. This achievement was made possible through collaboration with the Pakistan Child Heart Foundation.

Speaking to the media, PIC dean Prof Shahkar Ahmad Shah and head of paediatric cardiology Prof Ejaz expressed gratitude to the Child Heart Foundation for support and trust.

Prof Ahmad said: `It is an honour for PIC that international expens have trusted our institution and successfully carded out such a large number of cases here. PIC is a source of pride for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan, providing state-of-the-art facilities to patients.

Prof Ejaz said that PIC was equipped with world-class facilities in paediatric cardiology.

`In 2024 alone, over 800 children received lifesaving treatment to close heart defects using advanced devices,` he said.

`PIC is a beacon of hope for families who previously had to seek costly treatments abroad or were unable to afford them.

International expens commended PIC for its exceptional services, advanced facilities, and the dedication of its doctors and staff.
