NEW DELHI: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Deputy Prime Minister, broadcasting tonight [Feb 18] in connection with the `Restore women and children week` made a fervent appeal for the restoration of abducted women.
He said: `... During the recent disturbances, which overspread both the West and East Punjab and the Frontier, nothing has degraded us more than the foul crimes and barbarities which have been inflicted on innocent women and children who have been forcibly torn from their kith and kin and subjected to most inhuman indignities and violence. To rescue them from these living conditions and restore them to their original environments is, therefore, an essential mission if men`s reputation is to be rehabilitated as that of human beings.
[Meanwhile, as reported from Washington,] The United States Supreme Court today [Feb 16] rejected a demand by a Negro lady student, Mrs Ada Lois Fisher, for immediate admission to the University of Oklahoma Law School. One Judge dissented and said she ought to be admitted at once.
