Egypt dominate at Asian taekwondo

ISLAMABAD: Egypt dominated the Combaxx seventh Asian Taekwondo Open Championships here on Tuesday, clinching three gold medals while Pakistan put up an impressive performance securing one silver and nine bronze.

In the men`s -54kg category, Egypt`s Abdo Refaat Mohamed claimed gold, Pakistan`s Shahzaib Khan secured silver while Afghanistan`s Ihasam Rahimi and Mohammad Ghulam of Pakistan shared bronze.

Iran`s Dehghani Mohammad Sadegh clinched gold in the men`s -68kg, Afghanistan`s Zain Hikmatullah took silver while home contestant Anjum Hussain shared bronze with Jordan`s Othman Mohammad.

In the men`s -87kg, Egypt`s Eissa Seif secured gold and Saudi Arabia`s Almabroul< Ali Mabrouk seized silver. Iran`s Ghahremani Amir Mohammad and Uzbel(istan`s Bayhodjaev Nurlan shared bronze.

Pakistan also fared remarkably well in the women`s section.

In the -46kg, Saudi Arabia`s Alsharif Taiba Khalid clinched gold while Portugal`s Barroso Kiara secured silver. Pakistan`s Momina Khan and Saima Mazhar added to the country`s medals tally with bronze.

Kenya`s Muriu Mary took gold in the -57kg category followed by Pakistan`s Rahman Noor who earned silver. Pakistan`s Mariam Fatima and Muneeba Alam grabbed bronze.

In the women`s -731(g category, Egypt`s Orabi Malak Diaa Ahmed emerged as the winner while Hoermann Emily of Germany claimed silver. Pakistan`s Mubashra Sana and Pakeeza Khan clinched bronze in this category.
