Faiz conference at GCUF

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Department of Urdu of the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) inaugurated the two-day International Faiz Conference on Tuesday.
The event was presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam, celebrating the life, poetry, and philosophy of Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
The conference had the special honour of hosting Muniza Hashmi (daughter of Faiz) and Dr Ali Madeeh Hashmi (grandson of Faiz), who shared personal insights and reflections on Faiz`s legacy.
International scholars Bhupinder Singh Malhi (Canada) and Dr Sadaf Mirza (Denmark) were also among the distinguished guests.
Dr Rabia Sarfraz, chairperson of the Department of Urdu and principal organiser of the conference, said the event aims to raise awareness about students` rights and promote peace and friendship through Faiz`s liter ary legacy.
During the session, Ms Hashmi read excerpts from letters written to her by Faiz, sharing precious memories of her father. Dr Hashmi discussed his book Mehru Wafa Ke Baab, a biography of Faiz.Dr Mirza provided insights into Faiz`s literary influence in Denmark, while Malhi highlighted the depth of Faiz`s poetry and its relevance in today`s world.
Dr Yousaf presented a keynote paper on the significance of Faiz`s work in the modern era.
Dr Rauf-i-Azam expressed pride that students had the opportunity to hear directly from such esteemed personalities about Faiz`s life and ideology. He also highlighted the need to explore new dimensions of Faiz studies in the age of scientific advancements. He shared a personal connection with Faiz, as both hailed from Sialkot.
He extended heartfelt gratitude to all national and international scholars for their participation, which enhanced the global significance of the conference. The opening session concluded with the distribution of certificates and shields among distinguished guests and participants.
ACCIDENT: A bus driver died and a passenger was injured when a bus collided with a truck from behind on Tuesday on Motorway M-4 near the Shorkot Cantonment interchange.
According to a Rescue 1122 report, the accident occurred when thedriver of the bus, travelling from Rawalpindi to Multan, fell asleep.
The body of driver Ayub Khan from Attock was retrieved after cutting through the steel frame of the bus.
The injured woman, 22-year-old Aqsa AgeelfromMultan,was shifted to Shorkot THQ Hospital.
FIA: The Faisalabad FIA on Tuesday arrested another member of the `Chinioti gang` involved in human trafficking.
An official stated that the gang consists of 11 members, and so far, eight of them have been arrested. He said that the suspect, Muhammad Zaheer Butt, was arrested in Gujranwala.
This gang reportedly received Rs40 million from 31 people in exchange for smuggling them to Europe.
ROBBERY: Robbers looted a poultry trader, snatching Rs3.5 million from him at Painsara Adda in Faisalabad on Tuesday evening.
Complainant Faheem Afzal of Chak 275-JB stated in his FIR, registered by Thikriwala police under section 392 of the PPC, that he was on his way to his business when three gunmen intercepted him and snatched his cash. Correspondent
