RAWALPINDI, March 18: Two government officials were injured when `illegal occupants` of two shops at Pirwadhai Bus Terminal beat them up during an operation on Monday.

A team of municipal services department launched an operation to get the two shops vacated.

During the operation, the government officials and the encroachers exchanged hot words, which turned into a clash.

Two government officials Mohammad Mahfooz and Gulraiz Ahmed received injuries and were shif ted to hospital.

Later, the Pirwadhai Police sealed the shops and registered a case against the encroachers.

The two shops were sealed in December 2011 on the directives of Punjab Local Government department over ownership dispute.

However, on Monday, Executive District Officer Municipal Services Imtiaz Malik received a complaint that some people had broken open the shops.

Upon this, EDO Imtiaz Malik assigned the district officer, Dr. Mazhar Azeem, the task to get the shops vacated.

When contacted, District Officer Dr. Mazhar Azeem told Dawn that the shops were sealed in 2011 over the dispute among two tenants.

`Both parties moved to court which directed Punjab Local government to seal the property till the settlement of the dispute,` he said.
