Tenants hold sit-in against leaders` arrest

OKARA: Hundreds of activists of the Anjuman-i-Mazareen Punjab (AMP) held a sit-in outside the DPO office at the District Complex against the arrest of their leaders.

The tenants from Kulyana Estate, Military Farms Ol(ara, Renala Estate and Boyle Ganj reached the district complex on tractor-trolleys and motorcycles after marching on Tehsil Road, MA Jinnah Road and Tank Chowk.

They parked their vehicles on MA Jinnah Road and gathered in front of the DPO office to hold a sit-in againstthe arrest of Kulyana Estate AMP President Saleem Jhakkhar and Renala Estate President Nadeem Ashraf.

He also issued an ultimatum that if its demands were not met, the AMP would lodge a protest on March 25 at Lahore.

The negotiations between the AMP leaders and district adminis-tration were held at district coordination officer house.

DCO Qaiser Saleem, SP Investigation Dr Farrukh Malik and Assistant Commissioner Tahir Ameen held dialogue with AMP leaders Mehr Abdul Sattar, Noor Nabi, Hafiz Jabar and Shafique Kamboh. The administration assured the tenants that the cases against AMP leaders would be investigated on merit.

The DCO called the AMP leaders to his office on Thursday (today) to discuss further course of action.

Af ter the meeting, the tenants ended the sit-in and dispersed peacefully after nine-hour long protest.
