Govt plans teachers foundation restructuring

By Our Staff Reporter 2018-03-19
LAHORE: The Punjab government is, through a law, restructuring the Punjab Teachers Foundation which works for the welfare of the school and college teachers in the province.

The Punjab Teachers Foundation (PTF) was established through a notification issued on Feb 27, 1990, under the Charitable Endowments Act 1890 for the benefit of serving and retired teachers of the then undivided Punjab Education Department.

Officials said the proposed Punjab Teaching Faculty Welfare Foundation (HED & SED) Act would exclusively deal with the foundation. They said the law would cover all teaching staff of both the school and higher education departments.

According to it, the Punjab Teachers Foundation will be restructured as Punjab Teaching Faculty Welfare Foundation (HED & SED).

Having its head office in Lahore, the foundation will receive grants from government or other bodies or persons as contributions, to run its management and to provide assistance to its beneficiaries and their dependants.

It will extend and improve medical facilities for its members/beneficiaries and their dependants, make special grants and soft loans to them in exceptional cases, initiate low cost housing schemes/colonies for them.

An 11-memebr Board of Directors will handle all matters of the foundation.
