Missing boy found murdered after rape

BAHAWALPUR: A minor boy was allegedly murdered after rape at 28/BC village in the limits of Baghdad-ul-Jadid police station on Saturday.

Station House Officer (SHO) Abid Hameed told Dawn by cell phone that victim Asad, a student, son of a local Isa, who worked as a labourer in Multan, went missing. He said the boy`s family members searched for him on their own, but failed.

Later in the day, some locals spotted his body lying in fields near the village and reported to police.

The SHO said that initial evidence shows the boy was raped and murdered by unidentified culprits.

He said a murder and rape case against unidentified person(s) had been registered, while the body was shifted to the morgue of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for the postmortem examination.

DOG ATTACK: A minor girl suffered serious wounds allegedly when a stray dog attacked her in the fields on the city outskirts near DHA.

According to Rescue 1122 staff, Zainab (4) was in the fields with her parents, when a stray dog attacked her. The minorsuffered wounds on her face, eyes, arms and legs.

On being called by the victim`s father, Akram , a team of the emergency service reached the scene and shifted the seriouslyinjured girl to the emergency ward of the BVH, where she was being treated for her injuries.

LIT FEST: The two-day South Punjab Literary and Cultural Festival concluded in Multan on Saturday.

According to an official handout, on the concluding day, South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Saqib Zafar,who was the chief guest, addressed the participants.

He said raising the literacy rate and ending poverty were the priorities of the administration.

He hoped that if the journey of progress continued, it would yield positive results in south Punjab.

Higher Education (south) Secretary Altaf Baloch said it was the first major literary and cultural event in south Punjab and such activities would continue in future.

A number of writers, scholars and poets, including Shakir Hussain Shakir, Prof Dr Aslam Ansari, Prof Hamid Raza Siddiqui, Dr Nasim Mehdi, Prof Shakil Patafi and Khalid Msood Khan also spoke.
