Pharmacy students to get training in LRH

PESHAWAR: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Khyber Medical University`s Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS) and Pharmacy Services Department of Lady Reading Hospital to equip pharmacy students with practical skills and align them with modern clinical pharmacy requirements.
The MoU was signed by Prof Sami Siraj, the director of IPS, and Dr Azizullah, pharmacy manager of LRH, representing their respective institutions.
According to the agreement, pharmacy students will receive hands-on training under the supervision of experienced pharmacists at various departments of Lady Reading Hospital.
The training will focus on drug formulation, quality dispensing and role of pharmacists in treatment of patients.
As part of this collaboration, LRH pharmacists will train students in use of computerised physician order entry (CPOE) system introduced in public sector, accurate drug dosage administration, reviewing patients` medical history and evaluating potential drug interactions.
The agreement will strengthen academic and research cooperation between the two institutions, fostering joint research, workshops and seminars, accordingto apressrelease.
Through the partnership, students will gain exposure to real hospital settings, understanding practical role of pharmacists in clinical pharmacy, medication management and drug therapy.
They will be trained in standard drug labelling, safe dispensing practices and patient awareness techniques, all of which will contribute to improving pharmaceutical practices.
KMU Vice-chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq welcomed the agreement, stating that it would not only enhance the quality of pharmacy education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but would also play a crucial role in making pharmacists more effective in their practical responsibilities.
He said that it would ultimately lead to improvement in public healthcare system and provision of high-quality medical services to patients.
He said that KMU was committed to academic and research excellence of its students as well as their practical training. `This MoU with LRH stands as a testament to these efforts,` he added.
