GCUF holds annual athletics meet

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Government College University of Faisalabad (GCUF) inaugurated its 23rd Annual Athletics Meet 2025 on Friday, organised by the Directorate of Sports.
Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam inaugurated the event. He said education and sports go hand in hand in shaping a balanced personality. `While our university continues to shine academically, we are equally committed to nurturing our students through sports and co-curricular activities,` he said.
He added that the university`s state-of-the-art Sports Complex offered modern facilities for students, faculty, and staff, and everyone should actively participate in daily physical activities.
The Athletics Meet features a range of exciting competitions,including 100m, 400m and 800m races, long jump, javelin throw and discus throw. Winners received medals from the VC in recognition of their stellar performances.
WALK: As part of Pakistan Financial Literacy Week 2025, a Financial Literacy Walk was organised at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Friday.
The walk commenced from the Institute of Agriculture and Resource Economics and concluded at the Clock Tower of UAF. Students, faculty members and representatives of the banking sector participated in the walk.
Participants included presidents and executive members of chambers, trade associations, business bodies, students from institutes for special persons, representatives of women-focused NGOs, bankers and other stakeholders from various walks of life.
The walk aimed to raise aware-ness about the importance of financial literacy and promote inclusive financial practices across the community.
PO HELD: Faisalabad police on Friday arrested a proclaimed offender wanted in a six-year-old murder case from Nishatabad.
Police said accused Awais had shot dead Jamal Din over a property dispute in 2019 and had gone underground.
FIRE: An oil tanker and two coaster vans were gutted in a fire that broke out at a filling station on Jagatpur Road at Satiana, Faisalabad, on Thursday night.
According to a Rescue 1122 report, the fire was caused by an electric short circuit while petrol was being drained out from an oil tanker.
The flames also engulfed two coasters parked at the station. All three vehicles were completely burnt. Five fire tenders took part in the fire extinguishing operation.
