MUZAFFARABAD: The young generation of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) will hold rallies and demonstrations on Monday to express solidarity with the youth of Indian held Kashmir who are facing arrests and atrocities by the Indian forces for their allegiance to the struggle for emancipation.
The rallies are being organised by the AJK government in the wake of arrests of over 120 young people in the Indian held Kashmir for their opposition to the recently-held parliamentary elections.
However, the government has also invited leaders of local political parties to attend the rallies in their respective areas.
The main rally will be held in the University College Ground here with Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed and All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders among the participants along with young political activists and students.
Later, a protest note will also be delivered to the UN military observers.Speaking at a function on Sunday, Mr Majeed called upon the youth to take part in the rallies to send a loud and clear message across the globe that `India could fetter persons but not their thoughts and that the hearts of Kashmiris living on either side of the divide and elsewhere throbbed together.
He said though the Indian forces were persecuting Kashmiri Muslims from all age groups, the younger generation was their specific target in a vain attempt to quell their participation in the ongoing struggle.
`Monday`s rallies will not only manifest solidarity with young Kashmiris but also the commitment of our youths to the common cause (of freedom),` he said.
The prime minister made it clear that it was not a programme of any particular political party but of the entire AJK population regardless of their political affiliations.
`In fact, we will also participate under their (youth`s) leadership.
Later, talking to journalists Mr Majeed said since the government in Muzaffarabad represented both sides of the Line of Control, he had broughtabout consensus among all political and religious parties to launch joint efforts for the cause of freedom from Indian yoke.
The government, he said, had also decided to send delegations in consultation with other parties to important foreign capitals to highlight the struggle and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people.
When asked if the People`s Party AJK chapter could organise receptions in different UK towns in the past for their central leaders such as late Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari, why couldn`t it hold any such event there purely for Kashmir cause, Mr Majeed acknowledged the lapse.
However, he said, his government was contemplating holding a huge rally in London in this regard after the budget. `It will be the biggest ever protest of Kashmiris in Britain`s history,` he vowed.
In response to a question, Mr Majeed condemned resumption of unprovoked shelling by Indian troops along the LoC and said it was aimed at diverting international attention from human rights violations in the Indian held Kashmir.
