By Our Correspondent 2014-05-19
MANSEHRA: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Sunday that the federal government had failed to deliver during its first year in power.

`We are openly opposing the government`s bad pollcies and admiring the right ones., but it is an undeniable fact that the government has disappointed people during its first year in power,` Mr Rehman said during a press conference here.

He said that he had rejected ministries for his party`s lawmakers after he knew that the PML-N government was not working for the Islamic welfare state where the rights of every segments of society were protected.

`Ministries and portfolios are not our objective; we are the only party in the country which is still following its ideology and never compromises on principles,` he claimed.

Governments complete their term because of the wisdom and not because of majority in assemblies, he said.

The JUI-F chief alleged that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was being governed by agents of secular forces who excluded lessons regarding Islam and Shariah from curricula.

Answering a question, he expressed his surprise over PTFs claim that there was no poll rigging in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its demand for investigating rigging in only four constituencies. He said that if 2013 general elections were rigged then the PTI government was also the outcome of the same elections.

He said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was voted to power by the people of India and now it was the responsibility of its leadership to settle the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN resolutions.

The JUI-F chief said that the media should set a code of ethics which should be given legal status. In response to a query, Mr Rehman claimed that media as a whole was promoting secularism in the country. `When you ask about the role of a specific channel then you should also take into consideration the role of entire media in the country, which is promoting secularism,` he said.

COMPENSATION DEMANDED: The tenants in Kaghan valley on Sunday took out a rally in Balakot, demanding compensation for their land which was being acquired for the reservoir of proposed Sukki Kinray hydropower project.

The participants of rally marched through various roads and assembled outside Madni market. Speaking on the occasion, Qari Abdul Hameed and others warned the government that if work on the dam was launched without taking them into confidence they would resist it.

Mr Hameed said that the tenants were holding possession of the land since there forefathers and would not allow anybody to deprive them of compensation. He said that the tenants` representatives should be included in talks for the land acquisition.
