WHO`s help sought to strengthen Lady Health Workers Programme

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has sought the World Health Organisation`s support for strengthening the Lady Health Workers Programme and its independent evaluation to improve quality of immunisation drive in the country.
During a meeting with Dr Flavia Bustreo, who heads the WHO`s Mother and Child Health section, Minister of State for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar said the government was interestedinutilisingfullpotentialoftheprogramme with over 100,000 lady health workers.
According to an official statement issued here on Monday, the minister during the meeting in Geneva said that the services of lady health workers could be effectively utilised to deliver routine immunisation vaccines to children.
Ms Tarar said Pakistan had recently finalised a 10-point national action plan for child health which had been agreed by all provinces and urged the WHO to help make it successful.
Dr Bustreo assured all-out support of her organisation to the action plan.
