LAHORE: Chief Secretary Khizar Hayyat Gondal reviewed pre-flood arrangements in Punjab at a meeting at Civil Secretariat on Monday.
He directed the departments concerned to deal with natural disasters, especially for dealing with possible flood and monsoon rains.
He directed the officials that the repair and construction work at river embankments be completed as soon as possible and district co-ordination officers personally visit dykes and identify the areas vulnerable to possible flooding.
Asking provincial departments to extend full cooperation to district administrations, Mr Gondal said that a plan should be devised to provideboats and other necessary equipment to districts.
The chief secretary ordered the Provincial Energy Department to take special measures for ensuring smooth supply of petroleum products during any possible flood situation and enhance coordination with federal departments.
He directed the officials that mock exercises be carried out and meetings of district disaster committees be held regularly.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority Director-General Jawad Akram informed the meeting that the central flood warning controlroom would start working from June 15 and district control rooms would send data on flood flow to it on a daily basis.
He said boats, relief goods and other equipment would be provided to districts according to their demand.
Livestock Department Secretary Nasim Sadiq said the registration of farmers had been completed so that they could be provided help in case of possible floods. He said that vaccination of cattle has also been started.
The Social Welfare Department secretary said a control room had been set up at the ofñce of Social Welfare director general.
The Met Office representative told the meeting that monsoon rains in Pakistan would be normal this year and would start late in July.
