Mercury rises to 41 degrees

ISLAMABAD: The capital’s temperatures on Wednesday touched 41 degree Celsius which may rise by another degree to 42 on Thursday.

According to the data available from the Met Office, the normal temperature in May remains around 36 degree C. The highest ever temperatures for May was 44.5 degrees C recorded on May 31, 1998.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has also issued a warning related to very hot and dry weather for almost entire country during the current week.

The most severe conditions would be in the plains of Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh which will be the centre of heat wave where day temperatures will cross over 45°C and will touch 50°C in some areas.

As the temperatures in mountainous areas of Gilgit Baltistan and AJK will also rise by 4-5 degrees C above the average, it will result in rapid melting of snow and glaciers. Due to its location close to Galiat the wind in Rawalpindi and Islamabad region was not very hot.

However, clouds will cover the sky on Sunday and bring showers by Monday in many areas including the Rawalpindi division and parts of Kohat, D. I. Khan, Sialkot, Bannu, Dir, Chitral, Peshawar, Parachinar and Gilgit. — Staff Reporter
