THATTA: Enraged relatives and sympathisers of a man, who was found dead in Thatta police station’s washroom in mysterious circumstances, blocked the National Highway at Chattochand by placing the body on the road and staging a sit-in on Wednesday.

The protesters told journalists that young peasant Noor Mohammad Aka Nooru Mallah was picked up by police after his wife lodged a complaint two days ago that he subjected her to violence.

On Wednesday he was found dead in the lockup washroom with his neck tied with his waistband and police claimed he had committed suicide, they said.

The victim’s parents rejected the police claim and brought the body to highway to record the protest.

Thatta SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio immediately suspended Thatta police station SHO Mohammad Hassan Pitafi, ASI Abdul Jabbar Leghari and a police constable and ordered inquiry into the incident.

The protesters later lifted the blockade.
