Ceramist Sheherezade Alam passes away

LAHORE: Noted ceramist Sheherezade Alam passed away here due to health complications. She was 74.

She had multiple health problems and had been on dialysis treatment for the last couple of years.

As an internationally renowned ceramist, she put on display her works in many parts of the world.

Alam was born in Lahore in 1948. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Design degree with distinction in ceramics from the National College of Arts.

She studied under the country`s first ceramist, Salahuddin Mian.

In 1971, she got married to Zahoorul Akhlag, a painter, and the couple had two daughters, Jahanara and Nurjahan.

Her husband Zahoorul Akhlag and daughter Jahanara were killed in a tragic incident in Lahore in the late 1990s.

She was laid to rest at Bagh-i-Rehmat graveyard near Bhatta Chowk, R.A Bazaar.

Her funeral was attended by known personalities including Nusrat Jamil, Jugnu Mohsin, former NCA prin-cipals Nazish Attaullah.

Sajida Vandal and Bashir Ahmed, Shahid Mehmood Nadeem from Ajoka, besides many of her friends and colleagues.
