KEMU, GCU to collaborate for students` grooming

By Our Staff Reporter 2014-06-19
LAHORE: The King Edward Medical University has joined hands with the Government College University to help improve communication skills of its students and groom them as good human beings showing sympathy to their patients.

In this connection, GCU ViceChancellor Prof Dr Khaleequr Rahman and KEMU VC Prof Dr Faisal Masud signed an accord at a ceremony at GCU Syndicate Committee Room on Wednesday.

The initiative will specially focus on involving KEMU students in literary and co-curricular activities, including drama and music, on the pattern of GCU and develop a strong partnership between the two varsities for sharing re-sources.

The 21-point accord allows the faculty members and postgraduate students of both universities access to each other`s laboratories, academic data, libraries and other research facilities. The varsities have also agreed to exchange teaching and research staff and initiate joint research projects.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Masud said doctors must also be communication experts, humble and sympathetic, as each of their word affected the mental and physical conditions of their patients.

`So, the (KEMU) university has decided to share the culture of literary activities and students` societies of the GCU for the character-building and personality development of future doctors,` he added.

Prof Rahman said the modern re-search had become complex and multidisciplinary and it was not possible for a single university or research centre to possess all the required knowledge, equipment, and techniques, so it was imperative to establish academic and research links and share resources, expertise and equipment with each other.

FATHERS` ROLE: Engaging fathers can help end child marriages, domestic violence as well as bridge communication barriers between fathers and children.

Involvement of fathers in a family is beyond the role of a bread-earner; they are also responsible for upbringing and character development of their children.

This was stated by Rutgers WPF Country Representative Qadeer Baig at a conference on Responsible Fatherhood organised by the Idara-iTaleem-o-Aagahi in collaboration with the CDA and Awaz CDS on Tuesday.
