THE attack in April by Jaishul Adl, a Sunni militant group active in Iran`s SistanBalochistan province, killing Iranian border guards should serve as a warning that our detractors want to stir trouble for Pakistan.
Islamabad should act wisely to ensure our cordial ties with Tehran remain so. The Iranians remained sanguine and did not react violently as India or Afghanistan would have done in a similar situation.
Similarly when India made a pact with Iran to build Chabahar Port --to compete with Gwadar Port-Iran made it clear that the deal had not been finalised. This was an implicit invitation to neighbours to join hands and not look upon one another as rivals.
Pakistan, however, has its reasons to suspect Iran gave a helping hand to India in creating unrest in Balochistan by funding separatist movements and enabling RAW to conduct terrorist activities.
The point is India needs to learn from Iran how to maintain cordial diplomatic ties even in the face of tensions and stop trying to attain a hegemonic role in South Asia.
