PESHAWAR: The city police have asked the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) to ban jirgas and public gatherings in Hayatabad parks.
A letter addressed to the director general PDA stated that complaints were pouring in from different quarters regarding public meetings in public parks, particularly in Hayatabad. It said the public parks in Hayatabad presented a very soothing ambiance to the residents who flocked to these places with families quite often.
It said the city police had received several complaints that quite often jirgas were held in these parks where a large number of people discussed business matters in public and occasionally heated argument created a bad scene that did not sync well with the environment of these places and created harassment and unnecessary hassle for visiting families.
Therefore, it said the situation warranted an early intervention and these jirgas and meetings in the parks needed to be banned.
The contractors running these parks should not allow such meetings and jirags in public interest, the letter added.
