PCNS to propose steps for recovery of the missing

ISLAMABAD, July 18: The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS), which was supposed to review the resumption of supplies for Nato forces in Afghanistan in the light of the parliamentary resolution on the matter, decided on Wednesday to call for a briefing on the situation in the neighbouring country and then review the implementation of the resolution.
The committee also decided to finalise its recommendations for ensuring the recovery of the missing persons and recommend amendments to the National Anti-Terrorism Act in its next meeting to be held on July 24.
The committee has been asked by the government to recommend measures to deal with the problem of missing people, especially those belonging to Balochistan, andhas held a number of meetings on the subject. The members of the committee have also been briefed on the situation in Balochistan by top officials of the troubled province.
After the meeting on Wednesday, committee chairman Senator Mian Raza Rabbani told reporters that because some of its members were absent due to prior engagements the PCNS confined itself to giving final touches to the measures to be proposed for recovery of the missing persons at the next meeting.
He said the PCNS briefly discussed the issue of resumption of Nato supplies and decided to request the foreign ministry officials to brief the committee on the situation in Afghanistan and the ongoing dialogue with the US.
It was reported earlier thatthe PCNS would review in detail the restoration of the supplies with regard to its recommendations about the terms of re-engagement with the US and the parliamentary resolution on the matter.
Mr Rabbani parried a question about the criticism levelled at the government by some lawmakers over the resumption of the supplies without a written agreement `in violation of the parliament`s unanimous resolution` Answering a question, he said his committee would also discuss the implementation of the Aghaz Hugoog-iBalochistan package.
The meeting was attended by Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, Kulsoom Parveen, Nadeem Afzal Gondal, Ishaq Dar and Munir Orakzai.
