PESHAWAR: The Qaumi Watan Party has asked the government to evolve a viable mechanism for the repatriation of unregistered Afghan in consultation with all political parties to remove misunderstanding between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The call was given during a high-level QWP meeting, which took place at the party`s central secretariat here on Monday with chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao in the chair.
Several issues pertaining to prevailing national and international political situation came under discussion.
Mr. Sherpao said the relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be normalised by dialogue, while the mistrust should be removed to bring both the countries close to each other in order to combat terrorism effectively as it was a serious problem facing both.
He warned the current tense situation in theregion was in the interest of none and therefore, both the neighbouring countries should sense gravity of the situation and take corrective measures together.
The QWP chairman said the Pakhtuns had suffered the most due to the prevailing uncertainty.
He urged the federal government to engage Pakhtun leaders to use their good offices with the leaderships of two countries to ensure normalcy between them.
Mr. Sherpao said the recent extension by the Pakistani government in Afghan refugees` stay in the country was a reasonable step.
He said refugees should not be harassed as they had been living in the country in line with an international accord.
Some participants complained about the blocking of thousands of Computerised National Identity Cards by the National Database Registration Authority, mostly in KhyberPakhtunkhwa, and said the CNIC verification process should be expedited to facilitate the people.
They said CNICs were blocked without reason.
The participants alsoopposed the extension of the Customs Act 1969 to Malal
They appreciated the chief justice of Pakistan`s intervention for the early holding of census in the country and expressed the hope that action would be initiated on the CJP`s remarks without delay.
The participants also called for the early convening of the much-delayed meeting on the next National Finance Commission Award to ensure fair distributionof national resources to provinces and remove the sense of deprivation of smaller provinces. Bureau Report
