Bumpy roads

2022-07-19
THERE are no prizes for guessing that Pakistan is an underdeveloped country riddled with a myriad of issues, like poverty, social deprivation, and limited access to healthcare and education.

Whatismore painfulis the government`s indifference towards the needs of the citizenry at large. One particular area marred by the lack or, in f act, the absence of governance is poor infrastructure, especially roads.

Those at the helm have no idea what the folks have to go through while commuting on damaged and bumpy roads, whether they are going to the of fice, school or hospital.

I have been using one seriously dilapidated road from Bozdar Wada to Thari Mirwah in the Khairpur district for almost 10 years. I can tell f rom experience that getting late to work is just a minorissue while travelling on this road that runs more than 15km. Owing to the frequent accidents that take place on the road, onefeelslucky every dayonreaching the destination alive.

Besides, many critically ill patients needing immediate medical attention have died on their way while being taken to hospital using this road.

It is a pity that the people keep voting for those who have turned a blind eye to their problems and cannot even build decent roads. Those running the show at the of ficial level seem to be interested only in filling their pockets while they can.
