Pakistan Post to print, distribute power bills

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Post and electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) decided in principle to hand over the distribution and printing of electricity bills across the country to Pakistan Post.

A senior official the Pakistan Post told Dawn that all Postmaster Generals have been directed to contact the Disco, falling in their jurisdiction, for making a distribution plan for phase-1 by July 25.

He said the decision was taken up in a meeting on July 17, it has been decided that initially the work will be taken up as a pilot project and in case of success, it will be gradually extended and completely handed over to Pakistan Post in six months.

In the first phase, he said the postal officials will distribute bills in one electric subdivision of each postal circle with the help of Disco staff. During this, the shortcomings , loopholes and defects in the system will be identified and removed.

`In this way, the responsibilities of distribution and printing of bills will be gradually handed over to Pakistan Post,` he said.

In view of the timely and effective delivery of bills of more than 50 millions domestic, commercial and agricultural consumers across the country, he said that the availability of postal beats and staff strength will also be reviewed.
