Pakistan seeks listing of Majeed Brigade as terror group

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday urged the international community to adopt objective and non-discriminatory policies to address the global menace of terrorism through collective efforts, while calling for the inclusion of terrorist organisations such as the Majeed Brigade as an alias of the prosribed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), in international terrorist lists.
In its statement, issued a day after the US designated `The Resistance Front` (TRF) as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) and SpeciallyDesignated Global Terrorist (SDGT) group, the Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all forms and manifestations.
`Zero tolerance for terrorism and international cooperation against it are cornerstone of our policy,` the statement emphasised.
The US State Department had termed TRF an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). While TRF had initially claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, it later reversed its stance and denied any involvement.
`Any linkage with LeT, a defunct organisation banned in Pakistan, does not reflect the ground realities.
Pakistan has effectively and comprehensively dismantled these outfits, arrested and prosecuted their leadership, and carried out successful deradicalisation of its cadres`, the FO statement asserted.
The Foreign Office spokesman further said Pakistan has always been, and continues to be, a frontline state in the fight against terrorism, making significant contributions toward global peace through its counter-terrorism efforts.
This includes the arrest of Sharifullah, the mastermind of the Abbey Gate bombing at Kabul airport. He pointed out that investigations into Pahalgam incident that happened in the internationally recognised disputed region of India-held Kashmir remain inconclusive.
While acknowledging that the recent designation by the US falls under its domestic legal framework, the FO highlighted that India has a history of exploiting such designations to further its anti-Pakistan narrative, diverting international attention from its own irresponsible actions and ongoing human rights violations in held Kashmir.
The statement concluded by reiterating that Pakistan remains a bulwark against terrorism, having made unparalleled sacrifices and demonstrating unmatched effectiveness in the global fight against terrorism.
