KARACHI: An Indian fisherman, who was arrested for fishing illegally in Pakistani territorial waters, died at the Malir district prison and the body is currently lying at the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for around two weeks awaiting transportation to India, it emerged on Friday.
According to sources, 35-year-old Jagdish, son of Mangal, passed away in prison on August 6.
It is still not clear as to what caused the death of the fisherman in jail.
According to Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed, the body will undergo a complete post-mortem examination ahead of being transported to India following which they can find out the cause of death.
But until that time it cannot be determined as to what happened to the fisherman.
It was explained that until the Foreign Office gets in touch with the authorities in India, the body will remain in cold storage at the morgue.
After the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has attained the necessary documentation of the late prisoner from his country, only then does the body arrive for post-mortem along with a magistrate.
Earlier in May, an Indian fisherman had passed away in the same jail due to health complications, making him the fifth foreign inmate to have died in captivity since November last year.
