Plea for FIR in Humaira`s `murder` allowed

KARACHI: A sessions court allowed an application seeking registration of a murder case regarding the mysterious death of model and actor Humaira Asghar.

`If the facts constitute a cognizable offence, let the statement of the deceased`s parents or family members be recorded, or at the behest of the state, for incorporating in the FIR under Section 154 CrPC and to proceed in accordance with law,` ruled the additional district and sessions judge (South).

The ruling came on an application filed by Shahzaib Sohail under Sections 22-A and 22-B of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) through his counsel Abdul Ahad Khan.

He sought directions for the respondents, Gizri SHO and Complaint Cell SP, to record his statement under Section 154 of the CrPC and register a case against `unknown persons` over the `mysterious` death of the model.

In the application, counsel Ahad submitted that the actor`s corpse was found on July 8 in her apartment in DHA Phase VI by police in a `suspicious, abrupt and mysterious manner`.

While mentioning videos circulating on social media, he added that it was reported that the body had been lying in the apartment for several months.

The application claimed that prima facie the actor was allegedly `murdered for unknown reasons` and then her body was left at her apartment. It added that the alleged incident needed to be investigated thoroughly.

The applicant prayed to register an FIR against unknown person under the relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code.

In addition, during the proceedings, the police had also submitted their report in response to the application, which stated that statements of various individuals had been recorded but `no fruitful result has been obtained.

According to the report, the police, accompanied by a bailiff and the applicant, visited the apartment on July 8 on the direction of a rental court for vacating the premises.

It stated that the door was unlocked, and when the police enter the flat, the body was found lying on the floor, appearing to be around two months old.
