BAHAWALNAGAR: The police rescued a man from a Katcha area gang in Rahim Yar Khan who was lured to Sadigabad under the pretext of an attractive job on Aug 12 and kidnapped for a ransom of Rs10 million.

The police said Subah Sadiq, a supervisor in a local poultry farm in the jurisdiction of the Ghumandpur police, saw an advertisement regarding a poultry farm job in a WhatsApp group. He contacted a mobile phone number mentioned in the advertisement on Aug 11. A woman attended the call and asked him to reach Sadigabad immediately if he did not want to lose the job as they had `limited seats`.

The labourer was taken to the Katcha area by gang members from the Sadigabad bus stand on Aug 12. They detained him and tied him with iron chains.

The family approached the police on Aug 14 after receiving a ransom call of Rs10 million from the captors who also sent a horrifying video of Subah on their WhatsApp number, showing him in a miserable condition.

Three special police teams were formed to ensure the safe recovery of Sadiq.

Teams rescued the hostage on Sept 16 by using local residents of the Katcha area, police informers present there, and scientific techniques to locate the hostage.
