PEKING: Indian troops intruding north of the McMahon Line into the Chedong area of China have intensified their activity all along the Kechilang river and attacked Chinese frontier guards at several places in the last 24 hours, the New China news agency reported here on Oct 18.
The agency said: `A large number of fully-armed Indian troops advanced northwards yesterday between points identified as the Hatung Pass and Pangkanting apparently ready to cross the river to launch attacks on the Chinese frontier guards there.
The agency attributed the Indian offensive to `important arrangements` made at an emergency Cabinet meeting which, it said, was called last Tuesday by Indian Prime Minister Nehru.
`These events show that the Indian troops, in line with the new arrangements of the Indian authorities, are hastening to carry out Nehru`s instructions to `free` China`s territory of the Chinese frontier guards,` it said.
Chinese troops attacked two Indian troop positions in the Dhola post area in the North-East Frontier Agency on the night of Oct 17, an official spokesman ann-ounced in New Delhi.
The spokesman, reading from a prepared statement, told a Press conference: `The Chinese attacked our positions at two different places in the Dhola post area last night and opened fire. Our troops returned fire. We suffered no casualties. It is not known whether the Chinese suffered any casualties.
-Agencies Pension process KARACHI: Pension immediately after retirement will become the rule if a recommendation made in this regard by an expert Committee is accepted by the Government.
At present delays of several years are the rule, and there have been cases where Government servants have died after retirement before their pension formalities have been completed.
After studying four test cases, the Committee made detailed recommendations on which comments of the Audit Department have been obtained. Certain amendments to the recommendations have been suggested.
