TMA workers warn of agitation over non-payment of salaries

KARAK: The All Employees Coordination Council has threatened to start a protest movement against non-payment of salaries of three months to the workers of Banda Daud Shah tehsil municipal administration.

Talking to Dawn on Saturday, the council`s district president Azam Khan said that the TMA was in serious financial crisis, which had also affected provision of civic services in the tehsil.

He said that workers were even not paid salaries on Eidul Azha, adding that the revenue sources of the TMA had practically been suspended as the most revenue generating union council of Banda Daud Shah, Jatta Ismail Khel, had been declared as urban UC, making it part of the district council.

Subsequently, Azam Khan said revenue and development cess were going to the district council funds instead of TMA Banda Daud Shah.He said that it would be dif ficult for the employees to continue their services without salaries. He demanded of the provincial government to provide special grant to the TMA Banda Daud Shah to ensure provision of salaries to the employees and resumption of municipal services to masses. He said that they would launch a protest movement if the salaries were not paid till end of the current month.

When contacted, an official of TMA Banda Daud Shah on condition of anonymity said that the administration was facing financial crunch.

He said that revenues collected on mining of gypsum, salt and other minerals in Jatta Imsail Khel union council amounted to about Rs100 million annually, which was no going into the coffers of district council. `Revenue of the Central Processing Facility which is situated in the same UC also goes to the district council funds,` he maintained.Correspondent
