Incomplete barracks awaiting funds

By Our Staff Reporter 2013-12-19
ISLAMABAD: Five years ago, the capital police planned to construct barracks at police stations to provide accommodation to the staff there.

Construction of the first ever barracks in the country then started at Margalla police station to provide accommodation to 100 policemen.

But five years on, the four-storey building remains incomplete as the contractor abandoned work in the final stages due to nonpayment.

The police have already paid the amount to Capital Development Authority for the construction, but the latter did not release the amount to the contractor due to which construction remains halted for the past one year.

CDA tried to hand over the incomplete building to the police, which refused to take possession as the gas and water connections are yet to be installed.

The barracks aimed at providing accommodation to the ranks of constables to sub-inspectors, but the move has been spoiled by the CDA.
