REFERENCE the letter `Where is PEMRA?` (Dec 15). From December 2015 till date, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned eight advertisements because of the complaints lodged by viewers.
The writer has also mentioned that a certain `adult advertisement` is being shown by some TV channels on Paksat.
Paksat comes under Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and not under PEMRA.
Fulfilling duty, PEMRA has been flagging thisissue at alllevels.
PEMRA has a complaint-based mechanism which means that it mostly takes action when a complaint is lodged.
Complaints can be lodged by visiting PEMRA`s website (www.pemra.gov.pk) or through its social media pages i.e. @ reportpemra. Complaints received by PEMRA are forwarded to the Council of Complaints, which is an independent body to give its recommendations.
