KARACHI: Expressing concern over the slow pace of work on water supply scheme K-IV, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has advised the Frontier Works Organisation to expedite the work and complete it in time.
Speaking at a year-end review meeting — attended by FWO officials (project implementers) and representatives of the project consultants Osmani and Company — on Monday, KWSB’s K-IV project director Saleem Siddiqui pointed out that though over Rs7 billion had been paid to the FWO, the equipment for the canal lining and preparation of iron/steel structure for conduits and other relevant automatic machines had not yet been brought to the site.
He advised the FWO representatives to hire more contractors, additional workforce, days off/holidays be cancelled, a holiday-free policy be adopted and working hours also be increased from eight hours to 12 hours so that the project could be completed in time.
