Qaswa Princess maintains unbeaten record

LAHORE: Public fancy bay filly Qaswa Princess maintained her unbeaten record to win the 1000 Guineas of Pakistan, defeating her old rival bay filly Golden Market in the four-year-old fillies high-prized race over 1600 metres to make it five victories in-a-row before a fairly large crowd of fans at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

Owned by Karachi`s Syed Taufieeg Kamal Shah and trained by Shahid Rehman, the winner was guided to victory by jockey Shahbaz A. Syed Sibghatullah Shah.

Pir Pagara VIII owned filly Sincere Approach under Aamir Pervez finished third. The jockey had earlier lodged an objection against the riders of first and second-placed fillies for boaring only to be overruled by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards.

The main supporting event, the Anarkali Cup, a term race for three-year-old fillies run over 1200 metres was won by the chestnut filly, Dilbar who sprinted home to beat bay filly Moni to her liking.

Owned by LRC chairman Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud, the Shahid Rehman-trained filly was driven by jockey Shahbaz A. The second Supporting cup event, The Victoria Cup, a term race for imported and Pakistani fillies combined race run over 1400 metres was won by Imported filly Suicide Blonde who beat imported filly Marquises.

Yet another supporting cup race Ch. Ahmad Saeed Memorial Cup, run over 1400 metres, was won by bay colt Swift Retort. Owned by Syed Wajeehuddin. The winner was ridden by jockey Awais Anjum and trained by Irfan Kalyar.-Aftab Gilani
