Teenager killed by uncle over old enmity

BAHAWALNAGAR: A teenager was shot dead in Ghumandpur allegedly by his maternal uncle to take revenge as the deceased, along with other members of his family, had stripped and thrashed the suspect over a land dispute, filmed the incident and uploaded it on social media.

Police said Waris Ali of Chak Habibka had an old land dispute with his brother-in-law Barish Ali and Barish, his son Shahbaz and their accomplices, stripped Waris, brutally tortured and humiliated him in October 2024.

The attackers uploaded the video of the violence on social media. A case was registered over the matter against 19 people on Oct 16 with Minchinabad police. After the incident, Waris Ali threatened to take revenge and tried to attack Barish and his sons but they escaped.

On Jan 17, when 16-year-old Shahbaz was present at a tailor`s shop, Waris and four of hisaccomplices shot him dead after humiliating him and fled.

Police spokesperson said that a case had been registered against four nominated men with the Ghumandpur Police Station on Jan 18.

The suspects are still at large.

ARRESTED: A woman who tried to enter Bahawalnagar District Jail on the pretext of meeting a prisoner was arrested with pistol bullets and a cartridge during the search.

The FIR registered with the B-Division police, on the complaint of the assistant superintendent of the jail, stated that Jatti Bibi of tehsil Bahawalnagar tried to enter the jail on pretext of meeting her uncle, Muhammad Ahmad, on Jan 18.

The lady police found two pistol bullets and one cartridge on her during the search.

After checking the jail record, they came to know Muhammad Ahmad had been released from jail on Jan 17. B-Division Police arrested the woman and registered a case against her.
