PTI nominees win traders union polls

SWABI: Atif Khan and Khan Faraz of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) were elected as president and general secretary of Anjuman-iTajiran Razaar tehsil by defeating Shahi Ravan and Akhtar Ali of Awami National Party (ANP) on Sunday.

The voting started at 8am and continued till 4pm without any interval.

MNA Shahram Khan Tarakai, his brother Faisal Khan Tarakai, minister for elementary education, and his nephew MPA Mustafa Tarakai backed Atif and his group.

Shahi Ravan and his supporters were supported by ANP leaders including Razaar tehsil mayor Ghulam Haqqani.

Atif Khan secured 968 votes and the same number of votes was also received by Khan Faraz while their rival candidates Shahi Ravan and Akhtar Ali got 827 votes each.

About 25 votes were rejected and atotal2,820 votes were polled. Soon after announcement of the results, the winners passed through various markets in a big procession in tehsil headquarters Shewa Adda.

In his victory speech, Atif said that their top priority was to serve the traders of Razaar and coordinate with traders of rest of the province.

`The traders of Razaar tehsil tasked me with a great responsibility by electing me president for the third time,` he said.

Khan Faraz said that it was a big day for traders of the area as they voted for those, who always contributed to their progress by providing them with an opportunity to strengthen their trade linkages.
