LAKKI MARWAT: District police officer Mohammad Jawad Ishaq has taken notice of a video circulating on social media, in which a trader accused the Naurang police officials of raiding his godown, manhandling him, forcing him to pay bribe and seizing tea products worth Rs2 million.
An official said that the district police chief had called the businessman to his office today (Monday) to address his grievances. `After hearing the trader, an inquiry will be initiated into the incident to bring facts to light,` he said.
In a video clip, trader Ikramullah, who hails from Mohmand district, said he dealt with the business of selling dry tea products in Serai Naurang town.
He alleged a party of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station raided his godown, arrested his elderly father, Sher Badshah, and took away bags of dry tea worth over Rs2 million.
He claimed that the policemen also forced them to pay a bribe of Rs210,000 to them. `Our only fault is that we belong to Mohmand district and have come here to carry out a business,` he said.
The trader said that he had been running the business in the town for the last seven years and no such inhuman incident ever happened to them at the hands of police.
Meanwhile, the business community called an emergency meeting, condemning the incident, and demanding an inquiry into it.
They also demanded removal of the SHO, release of the arrestedtraderandreturn ofcashandgoods.
The traders said they would again meet on Monday (today) to chalk out a future line of action.
The meeting was chaired by shopkeepers`union president Haji Amanulah.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MPA and chairman of provincial assembly`s standing committee on home and tribal affairs department Tariq Saeed Khan said he had discussed the matter with the authorities concerned with the request to look into it.
`Let me assure the people of my constituency that justice will be done in this instant matter and other such incidents,` he declared.
He said humiliation of innocent people was intolerable.
DPO Ishaq said there was no room for inhuman treatment with people, involvement of police officials in malpractices and illegal acts.
He, however, asked people to avoid spreading fake news and false propaganda against the force on social media with regard to the incident till the completion of an inquiry. Correspondent
